Two new import cement terminals in New Zealand

Van Aalst built two new and innovative cement import terminals in New Zealand for LafargeHolcim. One is located in Timaru on the South Island and the other is located in Auckland on the North Island.

For the two terminals we designed 2 ship unloaders, 1 ship loader, 4 convey units and the aerated floors of the domes – each cement storage dome has a storage capacity of 30.000 ton.

The machines arrived in New Zealand mid November 2015. First the equipment for the cement terminal in Timaru were installed. The ship loading equipment for Timaru is designed to load cement from silo’s into seagoing ships with a maximum size of 15.000 dwt. The loading head, which is placed on the deck by the loading arm, drops the cement from the loading arm into the ship via a hole in the hatch.

The big advantages of these ship unloaders is the extremely economical and user-friendly operation that leads to low power consumption, low maintenance and significant operational cost savings.
